PETALING JAYA:
Any “sensitive” decision by the Negeri Sembilan government must be referred to a joint Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Umno leadership council, top leaders of both coalitions say following a meeting today.

In a joint statement, PH secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the council agreed that any state decision likely to trigger sensitivities or disputes must be immediately escalated to the joint body.

They said the meeting, co-chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, reached several agreements on the current situation in the state.

The statement said the council respects the positions taken by both parties’ political bureaus on issues in Negeri Sembilan.

Both PH and Umno agreed to maintain their cooperation in Negeri Sembilan to ensure stability and safeguard public welfare.

The statement comes amid a political crisis in Negeri Sembilan, where Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen made a move against menteri besar Aminuddin Harun last week.

BN initially claimed it had sufficient support to form a new state government with backing from Perikatan Nasional, but later indicated that it was prepared to sit in the opposition.

Bernama reported that the meeting at the Sri Perdana Complex in Putrajaya lasted for about an hour and focussed on current political issues, including the situation in Negeri Sembilan.

A source said discussions also touched on preparations for the Melaka and Johor state elections, as well as the 16th general election (GE16). - FMT
