State PAS chief Fairuz Isa said an assembly debate was vital to ensure the state government remains stable as well as to uphold transparency and justice.
He said a state assembly sitting, as an official platform, could scrutinise the state government, uphold constitutional supremacy and ensure that decisions made are based on the law and in line with the interests of the people.
“The state assembly should be reconvened to allow elected representatives to debate the political developments in a mature and democratic way,” he said in a statement.
Any attempts to postpone a debate would not bode well for the state government’s image and would erode the public’s confidence in it, Fairuz said.
“The menteri besar (Aminuddin Harun) must act immediately and responsibly to maintain political stability and uphold parliamentary democracy.”
Last month, state assembly speaker MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman said the assembly meeting scheduled to begin on April 27 had been postponed in view of political developments.
All the 14 Barisan Nasional-Umno assemblymen announced they had retracted support for menteri besar Aminuddin citing a loss of confidence. State Umno chief Jalaluddin Alias said the decision was linked to the ongoing crisis involving the four undangs seeking to depose the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
Aminuddin, who is state PKR chief, has since said he would lead a minority government until a decision is made concerning the political turmoil. With the withdrawal of Umno’s support, he has the backing of only the 17 Pakatan Harapan assemblymen in the 36-member state assembly. - FMT
