26 tonnes of frozen chicken seized over fake halal certs

BUKIT KAYU HITAM:

More than 26 tonnes of frozen chicken were seized at the border checkpoint here over suspicions that a fake halal certificate was used for importing the chicken, Border Control and Protection Agency commander Fauzi Yusof said.

He said there were irregularities in the halal certificate submitted with an import declaration by the importing agent. The details on the certificate did not match the information in the system.

Jakim, the Islamic development department, later confirmed that the halal certificate submitted was fake.

Fauzi said a trailer used to transport the frozen chicken consignment was also seized. - FMT
