PETALING JAYA:
Tamil digital media platform Vanakkam Malaysia raised a total of RM26,500 for several charitable causes through its second charity golf tournament held on June 5 at the Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Resort in Shah Alam.

Held under the theme “Swing with Purpose, Play with Passion”, the event brought together about 120 golfers, corporate sponsors and community leaders in support of social and community initiatives.

Among the beneficiaries were SJK(T) Ladang Batu Empat, a Shah Alam-based orphanage, the SIGA Junior Golf Development Programme, the Klang Rotary Club Healthcare Initiative, and accident victim K Shametha. Each received a contribution of RM1,000.

Participants and donors contributed a further RM22,500 for Shametha, bringing the total amount raised for her to RM23,500.

A hole-in-one prize of a Volkswagen Golf R-Line worth RM186,580 was among the highlights of the competition.

M Shanker emerged champion in the main category, earning a trophy, a Panasonic 50-inch LED television worth RM3,000, an Eagle Eye cart bag and qualification for a national-level final tournament.

T Narenasegaran won the senior category, receiving a trophy, an Eagle Eye cart bag and a special gift hamper.

More than 25 corporate sponsors supported the event, including Magnum Corporation, Magnum Care, PHS Autohaus, Bridgestone Golf & Eagle Eye, Batik Air, Panasonic and Pearl Star Tour & Travels.

The tournament was also attended by Kota Kemuning assemblyman S Preakas, who commended the organisation for its community-focused initiatives.

Vanakkam Malaysia founder and managing director M Thiaga Rajan said the tournament demonstrated the collective spirit of giving among sponsors, golfers, partners and supporters.

“The success of this tournament reflects the collective spirit of giving and unity among our sponsors, golfers, partners and supporters.

“We remain committed to using our platform not only to inform and inspire but also to make a meaningful difference in the community,” he said.

He added that the organisation would continue supporting Tamil schools, educational initiatives and wider community development programmes. - FMT
