Massive blaze at Gebeng waste facility sends thick smoke into sky

 

KUANTAN: Thick black smoke billowed into the sky after a fire engulfed a waste management facility in the Gebeng industrial area here today.

The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted to the incident at 6am, before firefighters from the Gebeng and Kuantan fire stations were deployed to the scene.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Mohd Salahuddin Isa confirmed the incident, saying firefighters were working to bring the blaze under control.

"No casualties have been reported," he said.

Several videos of the fire, recorded by motorists travelling to the industrial area for work, have since gone viral on social media.- NST
