BN Wanita chairman hopes for more women contesting in Johor polls

PUTRAJAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) Wanita chairman Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad has called for more women candidates to be fielded by Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties in the upcoming Johor election.

She said Johor currently had one of the highest proportions of winning female BN candidates nationwide.

"We are seeing around 25 to 26 per cent, possibly more, of BN's winning candidates being women," she told reporters during a media walkabout on the B15 biodiesel rollout at Petronas Precinct 16 here today.

On Monday, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who is also Machap assemblyman, announced the dissolution of the Johor state assembly.

Separately on June 2, Deputy Prime Minister and BN Chairman Datuk Seri Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told reporters the list of candidates to contest in the impending election has been submitted to him by Onn.

He said the list of candidates contesting all 56 state seats would be announced before nomination day.

The BN chairman also underscored his confidence as he targets to win more than 40 seats in the state election, improving on its performance in the 2022 polls. - NST
