Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) questioned whether Putrajaya intends to recognise "NGO-issued certificates" for public university admissions, after recently approving the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) for selected courses.
During the oral question session in the Dewan Rakyat this morning, he sarcastically said the government would now have to adopt educational qualifications beyond the national school programme.
"Since we have already recognised the UEC, we should also recognise certificates, perhaps from the Kadazan, Iban and others.
"So, in a situation where we are facing underemployment, the government is recognising (a non-national education certificate)," Shahidan said.
In response, Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim urged the opposition lawmaker not to politicise the issue, stressing that the national education system remains the only pathway fully recognised for admission into public universities. - Mkini
