PETALING JAYA:
Singapore will impose a new entry fee of S$15 (about RM48) per trip on Malaysia-registered taxis entering the republic from Jan 1, 2027, replacing the current monthly fee of S$2.

The republic’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) said today the adjustment to the Asean public service vehicle permits (PSVPs) is aimed at narrowing the cost gap between Malaysia-registered taxis and Singapore-registered taxis operating in Singapore.

“Only Malaysia-registered taxis with valid public service vehicle licences (PSVLs) and Asean PSVPs issued by the LTA are allowed to operate cross-border services between the two countries.

“Commuters are advised to use only licensed taxis for cross-border travel as only these have valid insurance coverage,” Bernama reported it as saying today.

The LTA also cautioned passengers against using unlicensed vehicles that are not properly insured as the passengers would be left without adequate protection or avenues for compensation in the event of an accident.

“The LTA will continue to take enforcement action against illegal point-to-point transport services to safeguard commuters and the livelihoods of licensed drivers,” it added. - FMT
