Maszlee dodges Johor MB candidate poser; new hospital to be built in Nilai

Johor polls

  • Pakatan Harapan’s Puteri Wangsa candidate Maszlee Malik has again sidestepped a question on his potential as the coalition’s Johor menteri besar candidate if elected in the July 11 polls.

Speaking to reporters in Johor Bahru after the launch of Harapan’s election manifesto, Maszlee (above) said he will only answer questions related to the coalition’s promises.

“I think today we are just talking about the manifesto. We’re not talking about other things,” said the Simpang Renggam PKR chief.

A journalist who asked the question pointed out that Maszlee was earlier tasked to lead a presentation on Johor Harapan’s manifesto, alongside Larkin candidate Suhaizan Kaiat and Stulang candidate Andrew Chen.

Harapan has also so far kept mum on speculations over its “poster boy” against BN’s caretaker menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Public healthcare

  • A new hospital will be built in Bandar Enstek, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, to meet the healthcare needs of residents in the Seremban district and to ease congestion at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital (HTJ).

    Dzulkefly Ahmad

Bernama reported Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad saying that the proposed facility in the northern corridor of Seremban is in line with rapid development in the area, which has led to a significant rise in population.

He reportedly said the decision to proceed with the new hospital followed a review by the ministry of the direction of the proposed Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital 2 (HTJ2) project in Rasah, as well as discussions with caretaker Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun on June 16.

Court

  • The Penang High Court has fixed eight days in October for the defence trial of four people charged with the murder of teenager T Nhaveen in 2017.

Deputy registrar Firdaus Abdul Wahab set Oct 7 to 9 and Oct 12 to 16 as the trial dates during a case management proceeding today, Bernama reported.

However, the Court of Appeal overturned the acquittal and ordered the men to enter their defence.

  • The High Court previously acquitted and discharged J Ragesuthan and S Gokulan in 2023, as well as two others who were juveniles at the time of the alleged offence.
