PETALING JAYA:
The Uyarvu Madani Grant programme launched by the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) has received 1,340 applications as of noon today, just five days after it was announced to the public.

Launched by human resources minister R Ramanan on June 29, the initiative offers grants of up to RM50,000 to eligible Indian entrepreneurs based on their business category.

Mitra director-general K Raveendran Nair said the encouraging number of applications reflected the strong demand among micro and small entrepreneurs for financial aid to expand and strengthen their businesses.

He said that while applications are scheduled to close on July 13, applications may close earlier if the target of 1,500 submissions is reached.

“Of the applications received, 700 entrepreneurs who meet the eligibility requirements and selection criteria will be chosen to receive assistance under this programme,” he said in a statement.

The grant, structured to ensure financial assistance reaches businesses at different stages of development, offers three funding categories – Micro (up to RM20,000), Growth (up to RM35,000) and High (up to RM50,000).

The initiative is intended to help businesses strengthen their operational capacity, improve productivity, and enhance competitiveness.

Ramanan previously said the Uyarvu Madani Grant was designed based on the actual needs of Indian entrepreneurs, particularly micro-business owners who face challenges accessing financing for growth.

He also stressed that the assistance must be distributed transparently, with integrity, and directly to deserving recipients to ensure the intended community benefits from the programme.

Applicants must be Malaysian citizens aged between 21 and 55 and have a valid business registration with the Companies Commission of Malaysia.

Further information, guidelines, and application forms are available on Mitra’s Facebook page or official website. - FMT
