Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil highlighted the amount of paperwork MCMC officers must go through when issuing a takedown request, saying each complaint takes an average of 30 to 45 minutes to file with each social media platform provider.
Responding to a question from Rodziah Ismail (Harapan-Ampang), he said this is because every application is accompanied by various documents and reasons to justify the request.
He told the Dewan Rakyat this morning that MCMC has issued 345,712 requests this year as of yesterday, of which 91 percent contained content related to scams or gambling.
“This means that from Jan 1 up to yesterday, MCMC has used up a total of 19.7 years of work hours to file (takedown requests) against content that is believed to be harmful,” he added. - Mkini
