Negri Sembilan Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said he had received numerous reports from the police and the Election Commission of campaign materials being sabotaged in several constituencies.
"I have received many reports from the police and the Election Commission, not only here in Rantau but across many parts of the state, involving campaign materials, flags, posters and buntings.
"It is not only the other side that has been affected. BN's campaign materials have also been widely sabotaged," said Mohamad, who is also BN deputy chairman.
He was speaking at a programme at the Bandar Ekar polling district centre in Rantau last night.
Mohamad reminded supporters that campaign materials put up during the official campaign period must be respected.
"Let us not to interfere with our opponents' campaign materials.
"Throughout the gazetted campaign period until polling day on Aug 1, these campaign materials are permitted under the law. Do not touch them," he said.
Mohamad, who is also BN's candidate for the Rantau state seat, urged his supporters to preserve harmony throughout the campaign period and demonstrate political maturity.
"Let us protect Rantau's good name. This is my constituency.
"I hope all of you will safeguard our harmony. Let us practise mature and responsible democracy.
"Let us prove that BN is better than the other parties," he said.
Earlier, Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said 14 investigation papers had been opened as of yesterday into election-related offences, including cases involving the burning of party flags and the vandalism of banners and billboards. - NST
