Special Branch chief appointed acting deputy IGP

PETALING JAYA:

Bukit Aman Special Branch chief Ibrahim Darus has been appointed acting deputy inspector-general of police (IGP), taking over from Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, who retires tomorrow.

IGP Khalid Ismail witnessed the handover ceremony between Ibrahim and Ayob Khan at the police training centre today, Bernama reported.

Ibrahim was promoted to director of the federal Special Branch not too long ago, having been appointed as Bukit Aman E1 Special Branch deputy director in April 2025.

Prior to that, he was deputy chief of the Sarawak police contingent.

Ayob Khan retires from the force tomorrow after nearly 35 years of service, during which he served in multiple key positions and divisions, including the Special Branch and the counter-terrorism division.

He also served as Johor police chief and led Bukit Aman’s narcotics crime investigation department and criminal investigation department before being appointed deputy IGP in June 2023.

Khalid was also director of the federal Special Branch before his appointment as IGP in June last year. - FMT
