Zahid calls for better salaries and allowances for Kemas teachers

 The deputy prime minister says he had instructed the Kemas director-general to make all key positions in the department to be permanent positions.

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Kemas is one of the departments under his ministry that is most active in reaching out to the community.

All key positions in the community development department (Kemas) should be made permanent posts in order to strengthen the service scheme and safeguard the welfare of its personnel, deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.

Zahid, who is also the minister of rural and regional development, said he had instructed the Kemas director-general to look into more attractive salaries and allowances for all Kemas teachers.

“So far, the service scheme approved by the public service department has placed contract positions for Kemas. I have also instructed the director-general to make all key positions into permanent positions,” he said.

He described Kemas as one of the departments under his ministry that is most active in reaching out to the community, and which had received international recognition for its early childhood education programmes.

“It seems that these classes are small, some are in poor condition, and there may be teachers who are slow, but the commitment shown by the teachers and staff has received world recognition as a sign that we can move forward,” he said. - FMT
