Parti Bersama Malaysia co-leader Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has called for an end to the use of constituency allocations as a “political weapon”.
In response to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, he said the funds should not be used as an inducement to persuade opposition MPs to support the government or as a means to punish opposition lawmakers and government backbenchers deemed to be “naughty”.
Nik Nazmi also rejected the notion that the prime minister should have the authority to decide which MPs receive the allocations.
Two-time Paralympic champion Bonnie Bunyau Gustin has failed to defend his Commonwealth Games gold medal after winning bronze in the men’s lightweight powerlifting category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
He attributed his loss to being unable to complete his final attempt of lifting 230kg when the referee issued the rack command during the competition at Scottish Event Campus Armadillo.
Bonnie Bunyau Gustin “It’s okay, maybe it wasn’t my day here today. I accept the decision as there are still many opportunities,” the four-time world champion told Bernama when met after the competition.
According to Bonnie, the 230kg attempt was a strategy to improve his chances of winning the gold.
National coach Shahibullah Ambi said two-time Paralympic champion Bonnie Bunyau Gustin has put in all efforts to perform at his highest level after recovering from an injury to his left chest area.
“We accept today’s results. In his third lift, we tried to do our best by taking on 230kg for first place, but it wasn’t meant to be.
“Bonnie has also just recovered from injury. So far, he’s given his best. His spirits are still high, and he has really done his best,” Bernama quoted him as saying at the Scottish Event Campus Armadillo.
Bonnie had suffered a slight tear to his left chest early this year and underwent rehabilitation at the National Sports Institute.
Petronas said any decision on Malaysia hosting a Formula One race again lies with the Youth and Sports Ministry and the relevant authorities, Bernama reported.
The national oil company said it was aware of the possibility of the championship returning to Malaysia this year.
“As a business entity, Petronas will continue to pursue opportunities that align with its strategic and commercial priorities, while delivering sustainable long-term value for the nation,” it said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Youth and Sports Minister Taufiq Johari said discussions were underway over the possibility of Malaysia hosting a replacement race at the Sepang International Circuit if the Bahrain Grand Prix could not proceed.
Terengganu ruler Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin is in good health and will continue follow-up treatment overseas as scheduled, according to the palace in a statement.
Sultan Mizan also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the public for their continued prayers for his health and well-being.
