Sanusi indirectly accuses Umno of betraying Malays, says PKR leader

 

A PKR leader has criticised Perikatan Nasional election director Sanusi Nor for his remarks likening Malay leaders in the government to the traitorous character “Buang” in the classic film “Sarjan Hassan”.

Commenting on Sanusi’s claim that Malay economic control and political power were being increasingly eroded, Selangor PKR election director Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan urged the PAS leadership to explain the Kedah menteri besar’s remarks.

“If PAS’ statement is true, then they are indirectly accusing Umno of betraying the Malay race.

“This is because Umno governed the country for more than 70 years and was only in the opposition for 22 months.

“If PAS believes Sanusi’s speech is correct, that the Malay economy has declined and Malay land has been seized over the past 50 years, then Umno must be blamed,” he told Malaysiakini.

Sathia added that the claim that the administration had seized the Malay economy was illogical, given that Pakatan Harapan, under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, had only recently begun governing the country.

“So how could Anwar or DAP have had enough time to seize or steal the Malay economy, as alleged?” he asked.

Yesterday, Sathia and two others lodged police reports against Sanusi at the Seremban district police headquarters.

Sathia stressed that PAS leaders could no longer be allowed to repeatedly exploit 3R (religion, royalty and race) issues.

“PAS often uses 3R issues to gain votes, and this time we cannot allow it to continue.

“I urge people across the country to come forward and lodge police reports over these inflammatory remarks,” he said.

‘Eroding’ Malay rights

Sanusi had sparked controversy after claiming that the Chinese and Indians had other homelands, while the Malays only had the Malay Peninsula.

“Malays have no other land. The Malays only have this Tanah Melayu. Indians have India, Chinese have China, Cambodians have Cambodia, and the Siamese have Thailand. Where do the Malays go? Malays are only here,” he said.

The PAS lawmaker also expressed concern about the economy, claiming that Malay ownership remained stuck at just 18 percent after 50 years.

“After 50 years, ladies and gentlemen, we are still at the same level. But when we look at the political and economic sectors, we only account for 18 percent of them. Meanwhile, our position in the political sector is being eroded day by day.

“Young people who play games, who do not care about political parties and do not care about politics, what are you waiting for? In another 10 years, this state will be lost if no changes are made now.

“Now! Not tomorrow. Now! Now! These people must answer for this. Now! We cannot wait,” said the Kedah menteri besar. - Mkini
