They say the former prime minister will manage his coronary blockages with medication instead.

PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Najib Razak will no longer need to undergo a heart procedure and will instead manage his condition with medication, according to his lawyers.

In a statement, Messrs Shafee & Co said doctors initially identified that Najib had coronary blockages, and that they had said there was a 95% likelihood he needed to go for an angioplasty or stent insertion.

“Upon completion of today’s coronary angiogram and comprehensive assessment, the treating specialists determined that neither balloon angioplasty nor stent insertion was required.

”Instead, the blockages can be managed effectively with medication, continued medical monitoring, and follow-up treatment.

“The decision to proceed with today’s procedure was based entirely on medical necessity and the clinical findings available at the time,” it said.

The law firm added that Najib was in good health and would continue recovering under the close supervision of his doctors.

Najib, 73, is serving a six-year prison sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case. His jail sentence is scheduled to end on Aug 23, 2028.

He has also been convicted by the High Court of abuse of power and money laundering linked to 1MDB and jailed for 15 years.

That term will commence after the expiry of his current sentence. Najib has appealed that decision. - FMT
