Tok Mat expects GE to be held early, to defend the Rembau seat

REMBAU: Barisan Nasional deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan expects the general election could be called earlier and confirmed that he will defend his Rembau parliamentary seat.

Mohamad said he believes there is a possibility that parliament could be dissolved as early as the end of this year if the prime minister deems the timing appropriate.

However, he said that parliament could also continue its current term until the middle of next year.

"There is a strong possibility that the general election will be held at the end of the year.

"If the prime minister feels the time is right, he will dissolve parliament. My expectation is that, at the latest, this parliament will continue until the middle of next year," he said.

He was speaking at a programme with the Kuala Sawah polling district centre in Rantau here today.

Mohamad said the Negri Sembilan election must be managed effectively as it would serve as an important preparation for the next general election.

"So I ask that we ensure this state election is managed well. It will serve as an experiment for us as we continue to strengthen support for BN," he said.

Meanwhile, Mohamad, who is also BN's candidate for the Rantau state seat, confirmed that he will defend the Rembau parliamentary constituency in the next general election.

"I will defend the Rembau parliamentary seat," he said.

He added that there is still much to be done to ensure the country remains strong, stable and competitive on the international stage. - NST
