The race will be officially named the ‘Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia’.
This was announced by F1’s official Instagram page, which said this remained subject to the final agreements being signed.
It added that the race will be officially named the “Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia” and will be held from Oct 2-4.
SIC hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix from 1999 to 2017 before it was removed from the calendar due to rising hosting costs and licensing fees.
Speculation about Malaysia being on the F1 calendar arose after the military conflict between the US and Iran caused the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races to be postponed.
Separately, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim thanked Bahrain’s crown prince and prime minister, Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, as well as F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali for trusting Malaysia with hosting the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Anwar added that Malaysia looked forward to showcasing the nation’s world-class infrastructure, operational excellence and signature hospitality to the teams and fans who will be traveling from all over the world.
“This collaboration is more than the staging of a world-class sporting event. It reflects the enduring friendship, mutual trust and close partnership between Malaysia and Bahrain, while reaffirming Malaysia’s readiness and capability to host major international events.
