WARISAN Sabah president Shafie Apdal has hit back at Anifah Aman, who branded the former a traitor, calling his former colleague the “real liar” and “real traitor” of Umno.
“It’s not true. I have allocated millions to Kimanis for various developments.
“It is him (Anifah) who was the real traitor, when he betrayed Pak Lah,” he told The Malaysian Insight.
According to Shafie, several former Umno Kimanis leaders can attest to allocations he made to Kimanis when he was the rural and regional development minister.
“Let me tell you this, I will never let another minister wait at my office.
“You can ask anyone from the ministry about that. Besides, if Anifah had wanted allocations, why didn’t he raise it in the federal cabinet, instead of coming around my office?”
On Saturday, Anifah accused Shafie of being a traitor of Umno, saying now he is begging for support for his new party from the Kimanis folk, after denying them development funds when he was in power.
Anifah also recalled being made to wait at Shafie’s office for two hours. Anifah claimed he was then told to leave his RM50 million project proposal for Kimanis without meeting the minister.
Yesterday, Shafie accused Anifah of betraying former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in 2008.
Anifah and a few Barisan Nasional leaders declined to sign a loyalty pledge to Abdullah following the coalition’s loss of its two-thirds majority in the 13th general election.
“I don’t quite understand him (Anifah). I believe he also played a huge role in sabotaging my bid to defend my Umno vice-president’s post the second round,” he said.
Shafie said Anifah expelled Umno division chief Yusof Said, along with eight other division leaders, and 41 other members for supporting him during the party elections in 2013.
Former Umno Kimanis chief Yusof also denied Anifah’s accusation, saying that Shafie had channelled funds towards public housing aid and built new roads when he was a federal minister.
“You can check all of the projects approved by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry at the district office, at the time Shafie was minister,” he told The Malaysian Insight.
According to him, Shafie also visited a primary school in Batu 6 Kimanis, announcing an allocation of a few million ringgit to build a new hall for it.
“It is a lie Shafie never stepped foot in Kimanis, or never helped the folk there.”
Yusof, who is a now Warisan Kimanis chief sponsor, said he was expelled from Umno, along with 49 others, by Anifah, without even being referred to the Umno disciplinary board.
He said they were sacked for backing Shafie during Umno’s polls.
