Akmal Saufi, the son of Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khalid Nordin has denied joining Umno splinter group Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) as claimed by a Johor DAP leader.
Akmal Saufi, who is also the Johor Umno Youth information chief, said he is still an active party member.
"(The claim) is not true at all, because I am still an Umno member," he said in a Facebook posting.
He has also called on DAP to apologise to him, and to retract an article in which the allegations were made.
On Monday, in an article in Rocketkini, Johor DAP assistant publicity secretary Sheikh Omar Ali had claimed that Akmal Saufi and many Johor youths were leaning towards Bersatu.
"For (Deputy Prime Minister) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's information, the new generation of Johor Umno have joined or are leaning towards Bersatu, such as Khaled Nordin's own son, for example, as well as the son of the state assembly speaker," Sheikh Omar said
He said this while responding to Zahid's remarks that the opposition was out to capture Johor in the next general election.
Malaysiakini has reached out to Sheikh Omar for a response- Mkini
