While Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak continues to remain coy over when the 14th general elections (GE14) would be called, Selangor menteri besar Mohamed Azmin Ali appears to have set his sight for Pakatan Harapan to take over Putrajaya in November.
Speaking during a Malaysia Day dialogue in Shah Alam, Azmin quipped that he could not speak on behalf of the federal government but may be able to do so in November.
"The issues you have raised is more focused on the jurisdiction of the federal government. This afternoon I cannot represent the federal government.
"Maybe in November insyaAllah I can, in November I can represent Putrajaya to address all of your concerns," he said to cheers from an audience of over 300 people at the Malaysia Baru dialogue held at Muzium Alam Shah.
Azmin was responding to two representatives from Pahlawan, an armed forces veterans NGO, who proposed for amendments to be made to existing legislations that governed their welfare.
Among others, they called for an increase to pensions for veterans, as well as a better compensation scheme.
During the session, Azmin was also directly asked whether he is ready to become Malaysia's next prime minister if mandated to do so.
Azmin, however, said that the answer would be determined in November by the audience members and voters in GE14.
"If you decide to continue your support for the corrupt regime, there is nothing much I can say, nothing much I can do.
"But if you have the courage of conviction, the political will (to change), there is no one who can stop the wind of change that will happen in November," he said. - Mkini
