Jamil: Cooperate with authorities to prevent repeat of 'big gay iftar'

Putrajaya has urged all quarters to cooperate with the enforcement authorities to curb the repeat of the "big gay iftarbuka puasa event, which courted much controversy three months ago.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom said combating the spread of such unhealthy culture, needed the concerted effort by all parties.
He was responding in a written parliamentary reply, to Ahmad Nazlan Idris (BN-Jerantut), who had asked what action the government had taken against the organisers of the breaking fast event and the steps taken to prevent recurrence.
"On the 'big gay iftar', Federal Territories mufti Sohibus Somahah (Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri) had said that a good deed like buka puasa should not be mixed up with practices banned in Islam, such as homosexuality.

"Th government takes seriously, the spread of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) culture among Malaysians, especially Muslims," said Jamil.
He cited several provisions under the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997 that dealt with prostitution, pimping, sodomy, adultery, lesbianism, cross-dressing and indecent behaviour in public areas.
The programme by Pelangi Campaign was organised on June 8 in Bangsar. It was also held to remember the lives of 49 people from the LGBT community who were killed in a nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, the United States on June 12, 2016. -Mkini
