The number of residents affected by the flash floods in Kedah as of 8am is 3,621, from 3,439 last night.
The state disaster management department secretariat in a statement said water from upstream and the high tide contributed to the situation warranting more people to be evacuated.
The victims comprising 1,081 families are sheltered at 29 evacuation centres, an increase from 22 earlier, and 12 are in Kota Setar district.
The centres are located at Sekolah Kebangsaan Titi Gajah, Alor Setar (334 people); SK Seri Gunung (180); SK Alor Mengkudu (117); Dewan Taman Sri Bagan (95); Surau Pondok Kepala Bukit (88); Surau Assyakirin, Kepala Batas (75); Masjid Kampung Lengkuas (46); SK Bukit Pinang (40); Dewan Wawasan Kampung Kelompang (32); SK Suka Menanti (26); Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Seberang Perak (13); and SK Taman Aman (nine).
Meanwhile, flood victims in Kubang Pasu district are staying at seven centres at Dewan Lubuk Batu (533); SMK Mahawangsa (469); Dewan Kubur Siam (303); Dewan Tokong Cina (167); SK Kodiang Lama (41); Dewan Manggol Malau (37); and Dewan Kampung Lahar (31).
In Pokok Sena district, the six centres are at SK Bukit Hijau (437); Madrasah Maahad Tarbiyah (166); Dewan Kampung Permatang Limau (35); Dewan Lubuk Keriang (34); Surau Kampung Menerong (18); and Dewan Kampung Empa (16).
In Pendang district, four centres were opened, at Pusat Rakan Sukan Guar Kepayang (165); Pusat Rakan Sukan Padang Pusing (55); Pusat Rakan Sukan Ayer Puteh (46); and Pusat Rakan Sukan Bukit Raya (13).
