Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has condemned religious leaders who supported BN and allegedly legitimised corruption even though Muslims cannot compromise when it comes to graft.
Instead, he said it was DAP, which is often branded as anti-Islam, that has taken up the cause to fight corruption.
"I don't understand why religious leaders defend Umno and BN... Muslims cannot compromise on corruption and misappropriation.
"Why is it that DAP becomes the champion in opposing corruption? It should be Muslims because we are taught that those who give and receive bribes will go to hell," he said in his speech at the Selangor Amanah convention in Ampang today.
He did not name the religious leaders but claimed the individuals had searched for Quranic verses and altered the meaning of "bribes" to "rewards".
He said Amanah is committed to educating the public that graft is prohibited.
"I have to inculcate in our soul the value of preventing vice and standing up for what is right.
"We also inculcate it in the people so that, if and when we come to power and commit graft, the people will rise quickly to depose us," he said.
Muhamad added that once Harapan takes power, it would reform government institutions for the better, including the ensure the integrity and independence of the police and the MACC.
"These agencies will be used to combat crime rather than "political revenge", he said. -Mkini
