The 28-year old pleads with court to be released on bail so he can explain to his family what really happened.
KUALA LUMPUR: An Iranian man was charged at the Ampang Sessions Court here today with sexually assaulting his 12-year-old stepdaughter last week.
The 28-year-old interpreter, however, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial after the charge was read to him before judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam.
He is alleged to groped the girl’s breasts and inserting his finger into her private parts at a house in Ampang here, at around 4pm on Dec 12.
The charge under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping if convicted.
The suspect, who was not represented, requested to be released on bail to meet his family and to explain what really happened.
“I need to see my family. I choose to be with my wife here (in Malaysia) alone. I’m innocent. I love my wife, I love my stepdaughter. It was a misunderstanding. My wife is so angry with me now because she thinks I did it. Let me see my wife, please,” pleaded the man who is married to a local woman.
The court, however, denied him bail and set Jan 17 for re-mention. -FMT
