Kok tells Najib, BN leaders to make stand on Jamal’s sledgehammer threat

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Najib Razak and Home Minister Zahid Hamidi should clearly state their stand on the threats made by Umno’s Jamal Yunos against Zaid Ibrahim.
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said in a statement, the two top leaders, and other Barisan Nasional leaders, should say whether they endorsed his threats and statements.
The deputy secretary-general of the DAP was amazed that the police had yet to act against Jamal.
She was referring to the torching of two life-sized effigies of lawyer and DAP member Zaid at the entrance of the Putra World Trade Centre by a group led by Jamal, the Sungai Besar Umno division chief.
Jamal said it was to protest against Zaid, a former cabinet minister and Umno member, for his “advice” to the Selangor sultan.
Jamal, who had also brought sledgehammers, was reported to have said that if the authorities did not act against Zaid, the hammer would “visit” Zaid’s head.
Kok said it was unbecoming of Umno leaders to allow their party member Jamal to make such a statement and threaten to use violence against even their own former cabinet minister in the compound of the Umno building.
“This is a bad precedent as it may lead to threats against other former Umno leaders. The police are very unprofessional as they seem to have no plans to investigate the threats uttered by Jamal.
“Jamal can criticise Zaid over his views on the Sultan of Selangor, but disagreement doesn’t warrant him to hurt and harm another person.”
She urged Inspector-General of Police Fuzi Harun to “show his appointment as top cop is a new start for PDRM (the police) by doing the necessary, and ordering an investigation into Jamal’s treats.”
Zaid had earlier taken to Twitter to “advise” the sultan, with his tweet reading: “The Selangor sultan should be careful with his words. No one is immune when the country burns.”
Zaid was apparently referring to an interview the sultan gave The Star in which the ruler claimed PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s political agenda was motivated by “deep hatred” and that “his anger will burn the whole country”. -FMT
