Police have revealed that a man previously arrested over claims that he molested a woman on the escalator of the Masjid Jamek LRT station had also sexually harassed women at two other stations in Selangor, all within the same day.
The other two cases occurred at stations in Petaling Jaya and Seapark last Thursday (Dec 14), Malay Mail Online reported.
KL police chief commissioner Mazlan Lazim (photo) told the daily that police were alerted to the Masjid Jamek case when the victim, a 20-year-old woman, lodged a report.
“She told police the suspect molested her while she was ascending on the escalator within the (Masjid Jamek) train station.
“The victim managed to react quickly and took a video of the suspect using her smartphone, but was unable to apprehend him,” he said, adding that the woman had lodged the report in Gombak after arriving there.
Upon investigation, police found that the suspect, a 28-year-old male Indian national, had been arrested earlier the same day by Selangor police for allegedly molesting women in the above-mentioned locations.
Selangor police are presently investigating the case, after which KL police will begin their investigation.
Cops still pursuing other LRT molester
The Masjid Jamek case first came to light when LRT operators Rapid KL mixed it up with a separate sexual harassment case that happened inside an LRT carriage travelling from Pasar Seni to Masjid Jamek, also on Dec 14.
In regards to the latter case, Mazlan said police are still on the hunt for the suspect.
“We have recorded statements from the victim (and) other witnesses, while (also) going over closed-circuit television recordings to positively identify the suspect.
“Police are also working alongside the LRT safety team to ensure constant patrolling and monitoring to ensure such incidents do not repeat,” he was quoted as saying.
This case involved a man who had allegedly pulled out his penis and rubbed it against a woman’s behind.
A friend of the victim tweeted about the incident and said bystanders had laughed when the woman screamed for help.
The post went viral and prompted RapidKL’s erroneous response that the suspect had been arrested and handed over to police.- Mkini
