Former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim expressed his support for Umno and PAS for the coming general election because both parties defend Malay and Islam as enshrined in the Federal Constitution, said Umno minister Noh Omar.
He said this after PAS vice-president Iskandar Abdul Samad Khalid's rubbished the notion of Khalid double-dating Umno and PAS after his appearance at Selangor Umno convention.
Khalid and his three predecessors decided to unite as they have seen for themselves how Menteri Besar Azmin Ali had failed to develop the state in an efficient and transparent manner, added Noh.
"Many developments were achieved during the era of Muhammad Muhammad Taib, Abu Hassan Omar and Mohamad Khir Toyo," the Selangor Umno liaison chairperson told a press conference in Putrajaya today.
"To remind you, both Khalid and Muhammad campaigned for the other side during the last general election. And due to their efficiency in the state administration, (Pakatan Rakyat) won more seats.
"Now, they have witnessed for themselves that the current menteri besar can't continue with the struggles and is heading nowhere. They have strong Malays spirit and want to uphold the religion."
"When he (Khalid) was with PKR, see who was in control? It was DAP," said the urban wellbeing, housing and local government minister.
Noh said leaders with the Malaysian spirit, who want to defend Malay and Islam according to the Federal Constitution will not stay long in DAP, a party which he described as "racist and chauvinistic". -FMT
