PM candidate? I’m just a small boy, says Azmin

After being mooted as a prime ministerial candidate leading up to the recent Pakatan Harapan retreat, PKR vice-president Azmin Ali has stated that he would prefer to continue governing the state of Selangor as its menteri besar.
“I am just a small boy running here and there.
“I want to focus on Selangor,” he said when asked about his nomination after a Jelajah Inisiatif Peduli Rakyat event at the Jamiul Hasaniah mosque in Klang tonight.
It was reported on Monday that Harapan’s youth wings had nominated Azmin as the coalition’s prime ministerial candidate, before eventually settling on Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad as their official nominee.

Mahathir was also proposed as Harapan’s interim prime minister candidate during the coalition's two-day retreat, with PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as deputy prime minister, according to PKR parliamentary whip Johari Abdul.
However, following a three-hour PKR politburo meeting yesterday, vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin and communications director Fahmi Fadzil downplayed Johari's statement, calling it a personal view.
After the meeting, Fahmi also read from an official statement which said that discussions on a candidate for prime minister would continue - because no proposal had been formally put before the Harapan presidential council, and because of the "history and principles of the Reformasi struggle."
When asked about this leadership pact, Azmin seemed to echo the official party line, saying that the proposal was not final, and that PKR are still discussing who to put forth as their prime ministerial candidate.
“Well finally, the rakyat will decide.
“Again this is just a proposal, not a decision. (It was) a proposal made by the five top leaders of Harapan.
“Our position at the (Harapan) retreat was that Keadilan will continue to discuss this. Because it is a major decision to name someone as the future prime minister,” he explained. -Mkini
