PM Najib: Dr M man of the past, not the future

UMNO AGM | Umno president Najib Abdul Razak has again ridiculed Pakatan Harapan's proposal that Dr Mahathir Mohamad become the interim prime minister should it win the next general election.
Targeting his message at the youth, Najib said the former premier would only bring old ideas with him should he return to power.
"If you want a party of the future, but you take someone from the past, he doesn't represent the future.
"The youth have to think. You can't accept a man of the past, it’s not logical. He will bring ideas of the past to the future," Najib said in his closing speech at the 71st Umno general assembly today.
As an example, he noted how discussions about the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) would have been cause for detention under the Internal Security Act 1960 in the past.
"But now in my time, it's more open, there can be discussions," the prime minister said.

During a retreat last week, Harapan had suggested that Mahathir, 92, lead the nation on an interim basis with PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as deputy premier.
PKR has insisted that the proposal is not final.
Meanwhile, Najib also said that Mahathir's ally, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, also harboured aspirations to become prime minister.
"If you don't believe me, ask the former Jawi assemblyperson," he said.
He was referring to ex-Jawi elected representative Tan Beng Huat, who quit DAP and joined the People's Alternative Party (PAP) yesterday.
Najib in his speech had also cited his various achievements, among them, the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail project and the East-Coast Rail Link.
"We can reach Singapore in 90 minutes, this is what people say would be a game changer in a few years' time.
"And from Kuala Lumpur to the East Coast, at the Titiwangsa mountain range, Bentong, Temerloh, Kuantan, Kemaman, Kota Bharu, Bachok to Tumpat.
"Even PAS is excited over this, the PAS state government wants this, too," he claimed. - Mkini
