Restrict subsidised goods to Malaysians, Umno delegate urges

KUALA LUMPUR: Foreigners should not be allowed to enjoy the various subsidies that the government offers the people, Bayan Baru Puteri Umno chief Noor Aeiza Hassan said.

“The subsidies given by the government are solely meant for Malaysians. But millions of foreigners in the country are now enjoying the subsidies.

“I urge the government to stop selling goods with subsidised prices to foreigners who have flooded the country,” she said when debating Umno president Najib Razak’s keynote speech at the Umno General Assembly 2017 at PWTC here today.

She said the subsidies given included for various food items and that this should benefit Malaysians, not foreigners.

Almost RM3.9 billion has been allocated in Budget 2018 to subsidise various food items, including cooking gas, flour, and cooking oil. -FMT
