The cabinet has decided to suspend the enforcement of the Sedition Act 1948 pending its repeal, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
“A decision was made by the cabinet yesterday that since we are going to abolish the Sedition Act, action under that act should be suspended temporarily,” he added.
Asked when the suspension would take effect, Gobind said the decision would first need to be communicated to the attorney-general.
“And then of course it is up to him to decide what to do next,” he told reporters at the sidelines of the eCommerce and Entrepreneurship Summit in Seri Kembangan this afternoon.
