MELAKA: The state government has lodged a police report against a new self-proclaimed Sultan of Melaka.
Deputy state chief secretary Datuk Maslina Baki made the report at the Ayer Keroh police station yesterday on the instruction of Chief Minister Adly Zahari.
“I have made a report based on the information we have and we have to wait for the police to begin their investigation on the said individual,” Maslina told reporters.
Maslina, who was accompanied by five government officers, declined to elaborate when pressed for more information.
.On Sunday, it was reported that another individual had come forward claiming to be the Melaka Sultan but the “reign” of the “ruler” was numbered after Adly said the state government would lodge a police report.
Based on a Facebook posting, the individual, 63-year-old Tengku Muhamad Jalil Md Nor, claimed to have ascended the throne on Oct 23 in Kuala Linggi going by the title “Sultan Mansor Shah III”.
This was the second incident after another so-called Sultan of Melaka, Noor Jan Tuah, 61, was acquitted by the Sessions Court of four charges of false claims and impersonation.
This self-proclaimed Sultan of Melaka was arrested while on the way to attend a religious event at Pulau Besar in January 2014.
The Melaka Sultanate ended five centuries ago with the arrival of the Portuguese.- Star
