Dosh issues stop-work order after Penang elevated road mishap

The Penang Department of Occupational Safety and Health (Dosh) has issued a stop-work order to the contractor of the multi-million elevated road project in Balik Pulau after several beams collapsed last Thursday.
The contractor has reportedly been summoned to the Dosh office tomorrow over the incident, according to a Star Online report today.
“We are reviewing the standard operating procedures at the work site.
“For now, the contractor is not allowed to load and unload other concrete beams,” Penang Dosh director Mohd Rosdee Yaacob reportedly said.
The Star also reported Penang exco for works, utility and flood mitigation Zairil Khir Johari as saying that the contractor has also been instructed to prepare a full report over the accident.
Zairil also stated that the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) will be conducting an internal inquiry tomorrow.
In the Oct 11 incident, a crane operator is believed to have accidentally knocked over 14 25m-concrete beams onto a slope in Jalan Tun Sardon.
The beams were being used for the construction of a 600m elevated road linking Jalan Bukit Kukus to Jalan Tun Sardon.
According to The Star, the road is part of a RM275.6million project also comprising the upgrading of a 1.1km stretch along Lebuhraya Thean Teik, and a 1.5km stretch along Lebuh Bukit Jambul.
The project is scheduled for completion next year.
No one was hurt in the incident, which reportedly occurred during strong winds. - Mkini
