Flash floods hit Puchong as motorists caught in massive jam

PETALING JAYA: Parts of Puchong were in a gridlock after flash floods hit the area late Tuesday (Oct 2) afternoon following a downpour.

In addition to worsening the evening rush hour around Klang Valley on major highways, the rain has caused flash floods on the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP).
Vehicles were in a standstill on the section of the highway headed to Putrajaya in front of IOI Mall and the LRT Pusat Bandar Puchong station due to the floods.

The jam extended to neighbouring highways as motorists were trapped in their vehicles while waiting for the floodwaters to subside.

Social media was abuzz with photos and videos of the floods, which showed cars submerged and people wading in waist-high waters.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department had issued storm alerts in Peninsula Malaysia, including Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Johor, and Melaka since 4pm on its Facebook page.

A reader, Sujata, informed The Star that the floods in Puchong began to subside at about 7.20pm.

On Monday (Oct 1) afternoon, a thunderstorm wreaked havoc in Klang, with trees being uprooted and cars damaged in the incident.  - Star
