KUALA LUMPUR: A bedridden elderly woman in a nursing home suffered severe bedsores and had to be rushed to hospital.
Lee Jian Hao, 36, said he received a call from the nursing home on Sept 13 claiming that his grandmother, Ng Aik Keng, 83, was weak and refused to eat.
"I rushed over to the nursing home and took her to the Tung Shin Hospital for treatment.
"When the doctor there treated her, they found severe bedsores on her lower back and told us that her condition was quite bad," he told reporters at the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department here on Tuesday (Oct 2).
Lee said he was shocked because his grandmother had been receiving care at the nursing home for over two years but there had been no mention of her suffering from bedsores.
"When I called the person in charge of the nursing home for answers, all he could tell me was that he understood now what happened to my grandmother and would advise his workers there to be more careful," he added.
MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said they were looking into the matter to see if the person running the home was a real doctor.
"We will meet with the person in charge to settle the matter before we resort to taking legal action," he said.-Star
