Guan Eng: New taxes? Wait two weeks for Budget 2019

PARLIAMENT | Those itching to find out about the new taxes under the new Pakatan Harapan government will have to wait another two weeks, until Nov 2, when Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng tables Budget 2019.
Such was Lim's response to a question from Ismail Sabri Yaakob (BN-Bera), who asked in the House today how the new taxes would impact the bottom 40 percent income earners.
"(Regarding the) new taxes which will be introduced, there are two more weeks until the budget is tabled.
"I hope Bera can wait a bit more, for two more weeks, like (how) the Malaysian people are waiting," Lim said.
The finance minister last week echoed Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in saying that next year's budget will be a "budget of sacrifice".
Earlier, Lim was heckled by BN lawmakers, who claimed that the government had lied that the price of goods would be lower once the goods and services tax was replaced with the sales and service tax.
Lim denied that the government ever made such a promise.
Shahidan Kassim (BN-Arau) then made a quick jibe, saying that Lim should let newly sworn in Port Dickson MP Anwar Ibrahim "take over" as finance minister. - Mkini
