PORT DICKSON – DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng tonight defended Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement that Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V had helped clear the PKR president-elect of his criminal conviction.
“Do not believe the naysayers. Stop listening to the nonsense. That is what the Agong had said.
“Please support our Pakatan Harapan candidate Anwar.
“Do not fall for ridiculous claims against what the Agong had said,” Lim said in his speech to campaign for Anwar, who is PH’s candidate in the ongoing Port Dickson by-election.
PH chairman Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the main guest at the event.
Among the PH leaders present were PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke Siew Fook and PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Anwar had previously stated that the Agong had given him a clean slate through the royal pardon, but the veracity of matter had been questioned by various parties.
The Port Dickson by-election was called after incumbent Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah vacated the seat to make way for Anwar’s return to parliament.
Anwar is currently locked in a seven-cornered battle. The contenders include former menteri besar Tan Sri Isa Samad and the PKR president-elect’s former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
