Independent accuses Anwar of bribing voters, files police report

PD POLLS | Independent candidate for the Port Dickson by-election Stevie Chan has lodged a police report against PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim.
The report, filed with the Port Dickson police station at noon today, concerned allegations that Anwar had bribed voters in the parliament constituency in Negeri Sembilan.
Chan said Anwar, during a ceramah in Sri Tanjung, told voters that he would secure three projects if elected in the Oct 13 by-election - a five-star hotel, an aviation training programme and education programmes such as free tuition classes.
“We believe Anwar has violated Section 10 (a) and (b) of the Election Offences Act 1954,” Chan told reporters when met later.
The sections cited prohibit candidates from promising to procure benefits for voters.
Anwar, who is Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's designated successor, is the favourite to win the Port Dickson by-election which features a seven-way tussle, with five independents and a PAS candidate also in the race.
The by-election was called after PKR's Danyal Balagopal Abdullah vacated the seat to allow Anwar to contest and return to Parliament. - Mkini
