PORT DICKSON: Independent candidate Tan Sri Isa Samad says he has no qualms about retaliating with personal attacks against his political opponents if he has to in the Oct 13 polls.
He said this after a reporter said an unnamed leader had brought up Isa’s corruption scandal with Felda Global Ventures Holdings (FGV) during Pakatan Harapan’s ceramah in Kampung Pacitan on Monday (Oct 1), .
“That depends. If they still repeat the same issues, I have no choice.
"But, I would advise them not to do it,” Isa said during his walkabout session in Kampung Arab, Negri Sembilan, on Tuesday (Oct 3).
.Last August, Isa was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for five days over a probe into the purchase of a hotel by Felda Investment Corporation (FIC).
He was also investigated by the police over the Jalan Semarak land deal.
According to Isa, it was up to the people of Port Dickson to decide whether they should cast their votes for him despite the scandals during his tenure as Felda chairman from 2011 to 2017.
“It really depends on the voters. On the issue of Felda, it is unrelated to the people of Port Dickson, isn’t it? Furthermore, what other issues are there with Felda?” he asked.
He pointed out that even the police and the MACC had not take action against him over the Jalan Semarak land deal.
“There are no actions (taken by the police) so far. Even from the start, my accounts weren’t frozen and my international passport wasn’t taken.
"This means there’s no issue,” he insisted.
Instead, PKR's president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, contesting in Port Dickson under Pakatan’s ticket, had more issues than him, said Isa.
“He has even more issues. He had action taken against him and had gone to prison. I tak kena (I wasn’t). So, PKR supporters are just embarrassing their own party.”
Asked about his campaign strategy, Isa said he had never resorted to personal attacks.
“Instead, I spoke about local issues. If they (Pakatan) really want to make this (elections) fun, I can speak about 1998 as well. It’s all inside my pocket.
“But, it is not good lah,” he quipped, referring to Anwar’s Sodomy I scandal in 1998.
On Friday (Sept 28), a day before the campaigning period kicked off, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution had advised supporters not to resort to personal attacks, saying: “If they throw s**t at us, we will give them flowers”.- Star
