The High Court in Kuala Lumpur today reduced the sentence of a 38-year-old unit trust agent who pleaded guilty to 623 counts of various sexual offences against his 15-year-old daughter.
Justice Azman Abdullah reduced the jail term to 40 years jail from the initial 48 years but maintained the 24 strokes of the rotan imposed by the Sessions Court.
The judge agreed to reduce the custodial sentence on the grounds and principle of the man's mortal age.
Although each of the charge the accused faced warranted caning, the maximum strokes the court can impose on a person is 24.
The accused was represented by counsel Cyrus Tiu Foo Wei while DPP Aimi Syazwani Sarmin prosecuted.
It was previously reported that the father of three who is divorced had sought to reduce both his jail and rotan sentences.
The accused pleaded guilty in August last year at the Special Sexual Crimes Against Children Sessions Court to 623 counts of incest, sodomy and sexual assault on his daughter. -Mkini
