It was a bittersweet morning for PKR's Danyal Balagopal Abdullah today, as he witnessed the man he gave up the Port Dickson seat for being sworn in as a parliamentarian.
Danyal said he was happy to see his party leader Anwar Ibrahim take the oath, but was sad to have to leave his many friends in the Dewan Rakyat behind.
"I have mixed feelings. I am happy but sad, because I have many friends in Parliament.
"Mixed feelings, but it's OK, because I want Anwar here to fulfil the Pakatan Harapan manifesto," Danyal told reporters when met in the Parliament lobby today.
In the 14th general election, Danyal won the Port Dickson seat with a 17,710-vote majority, beating out BN's V Mogan and PAS' Mahfuz Roslan.
He volunteered to give up his seat last month to facilitate Anwar's return to Parliament.
Anwar won the resulting by-election by a landslide on Saturday, securing a larger majority than that obtained in GE14 despite a lower turnout.
Anwar's parliamentary comeback paves the way for his succession of Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.
No timeline has been established for the transition. -Mkini
