PORT DICKSON: PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday joined the Port Dickson campaign trail, mustering support for PKR candidate Anwar Ibrahim in his first public speech in three months.
Muhyiddin, who underwent surgery to remove a pancreatic tumour after the May 9 polls, was still undergoing chemotherapy treatment at the end of last month.
However, he said he had come to Port Dickson to campaign for Anwar as well as to demonstrate the unity of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership.
“People on the ground, they don’t believe that we will fulfil our manifesto,” he told a crowd at the Bagan Pinang mosque.
“We acknowledge that there are many problems. But each problem needs to be studied to find a solution. We have only been in office for five months, and some are saying we have neglected the manifesto. That is not true.”
The Pagoh MP voiced confidence that with both Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar serving in Parliament, PH would be able to solve the issues.
He also urged the people to make the Port Dickson by-election an example of a healthy democracy.
“Not only for Port Dickson, but nationwide,” he added.
“In a democracy, you can choose anyone. But I want to remind you that Port Dickson has potential for development, so it needs a leader who is able to carry out work.
“Based on these conditions, we know that we did not make the wrong choice when we made this agreement.”
The Port Dickson by-election was triggered by the resignation of Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, who stepped down to pave the way for Anwar’s return to Parliament.
Anwar faces six other candidates tomorrow: PAS’ Mohd Nazari Mokhtar and independents Isa Samad, Stevie Chan, Kan Chee Yuen, Lau Seck Yan and Saiful Bukhari Azlan. - FMT
