‘No letter from Shafie asking for land for Warisan supporters’

False allegations that Sabah Chief Minister Shafie Apdal signed a letter promising land to Warisan supporters have been circulating in social media. (Bernama pic)
KENINGAU: A community leader has denied the existence of an application letter, purportedly signed by Sabah Chief Minister Shafie Apdal, which promises a piece of land for Warisan supporters.
Sook sub-district community development leader Edward Binbang said this after clarifying the matter with the Keningau Office of Assistant Collector of Land Revenue (PPHT).
Edward said no application was made for the 73 hectares of land in Kampung Biah Skim, here.
“Claims that the land which would be distributed among Warisan’s supporters, with each getting 6.1 hectares, were created by netizens and political in nature. It is also unfair to the local residents,” he told Bernama.
Shafie is also Warisan president.
A picture of the letter went viral on social media after it was said to be written by one “Abdul bin Naim” and 12 others from Kampung Lingkudau here, sparking a debate among social media users.
Edward said the PPHT Keningau Office had told him that there was no longer any vacant government land in the Kampung Biah Skim area.
“This is something people should keep in mind.”
He advised the people in the area, especially social media users, not to spread such allegations.
“They need to confirm such things before sharing it.” -FMT
