PORT DICKSON: Four independent candidates for the Port Dickson by-election are expected to lose their deposits, going by the unofficial vote count.
As at 8pm, Pakatan Harapan candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has secured an unassailable lead with 30,227 votes.
PAS candidate Lt-Kol (Rtd) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar has 7,297 votes while independent candidate Tan Sri Isa Samad has 4,117 votes.
The Election Commission said that voter turnout at 4pm was at 54%, but it has not provided the final voter turnout figure.
The Port Dickson constituency has a total of 75,770 voters and The Star estimates a voter turnout of 60% (about 46,000 voters).
Candidates need to secure at lease one-eighth of the total (about 5,750) votes cast to get their deposits back.
With 42,000 votes counted as at 8pm, the four other independent candidates stand to lose their deposit.
Stevie Chan has secured 321 votes, followed by Lau Seck Yan (202), Kan Chee Yuen (180) and Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan (90).
Isa Samad has yet to reach the threshold but votes are still being counted.- Star
