Planned free dinner for 4,000 in Port Dickson worries Lukut rep

A free dinner for 3,000 to 4,000 people in Lukut planned two nights before the Port Dickson by-election polling day, has been highlighted by a local representative as cause for concern.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Pakatan Harapan Lukut state assemblyperson Choo Ken Hwa said using free treats to attract votes is not a healthy practice in new Malaysia.
The DAP lawmaker fears the ruling party may turn itself into BN 2.0 or Umno 2.0 by doing do.
"While we support Anwar Ibrahim (as the Port Dickson candidate), we are not agreeable to using free treats to canvass for votes. This was the campaign method used by BN," he said.
"I have no details of that particular dinner that is slated to be held on Oct 11. What we know is (the organisers) sent out invitation cards and are said to have (arranged for) 300 to 400 tables," he added.
While noting the organisers called themselves the "Port Dickson voters group", he suspects the group comprises Anwar's supporters who are not locals.

"There is a better way to help Anwar. They (supporters) could donate the money to the government to save the country or they could donate to orphanages," he said.
Choo (photo), however, said he wasn't sure if Anwar would attend the dinner that night.
When contacted, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said this is Choo's personal view and he has right to voice his opinion.
"Given that this is a programme by invitation, there is no issue if Anwar attends the event," he said.
According to a Sin Chew Daily report, Choo had objected to another mid-autumn free dinner organised by Persatuan Muafakat One Belt One Road Malaysia (PMOBOR) and two Chinese NGOs in Port Dickson on Oct 1.
Choo and his colleagues from DAP did not attend the dinner despite being invited.
The Chinese daily report cited a source and said a sponsor from Hong Kong had purchased the tickets for dinner tables to treat the people in Lukut. -Mkini
