Police not sabotaging hunt for Jho Low, says IGP

Police are not involved in sabotaging the hunt for fugitive financier Jho Low, said inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
“As far as I know, PDRM (police) are not invovled. We are looking for him as well and have asked for Interpol's help numerous times although there were some technical problems at the start.
“We contacted Interpol directly to ask for help... The latest we found out he was in Hong Kong, but when we sent a team, he slipped into Macau. From Macau, we don't know where he went.
“So, we are communicating with our friends to help track Jho Low and his father,” he was quoted as saying by news reports following an event in Johor today.
The police chief was commenting on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's remarks yesterday that he believes the operation to track down Low was being hampered by sabotage.
“I think he is hiding somewhere,” he said when asked if information was being leaked to Low.
“(Former Council of Eminent Persons chairperson) Daim Zainuddin says somebody is informing him (Low),” he added.
In an interview last week, Daim claimed that Low was able to evade Malaysian authorites due to moles in the government who were still loyal to members of the previous administration.
"He (Low) has his people everywhere -- using taxpayers’ money. He was able to hire the best lawyers in town. I was told he spent more than US$40 million (about RM166 million) on legal fees alone," he said.
In August, Malaysian authorities charged Low and his father (Larry) Low Hock Peng in absentia over money allegedly stolen from 1MDB.
The Penang-born financier has been described as the mastermind behind the 1MDB scandal. - Mkini
