Polling officers in PKR election belong to 'camps', claims Zuraida

PKR POLLS | Incumbent PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin claims that the e-voting mechanism being used in the party election is open to exploitation because some polling officers belong to "camps."
Zuraida said today that based on her own observations, the polling officers who assisted elderly PKR members could be guiding them into voting for certain candidates.
"The senior citizens are not well-versed in IT. At the moment, the mechanism is not really transparent as yet. It seems that the pengawas (officers) themselves are helping there.
"And some of the pengawas belong to certain camps. Probably they just touch the button that they like.
"This is something within our observation that needs to be reviewed," the housing and local government minister told the press after attending the Property Industry-Government Open Dialogue in Kuala Lumpur.
Zuraida added that she would bring the issue up with the PKR election committee, and suggested that elderly party members be accompanied by family members when voting.
In the party polls, she herself is vying for one of PKR's four vice-president posts. Currently, incumbent vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar is leading the race, with Zuraida in second spot.
"Alhamdulillah, for the vice-presidential contest, I am (currently) ranked at number two. Party members have made their choice. We have eight more states to go," she said.
'It's not over till it's over'
Zuraida was also asked to comment on the neck-and-neck race for the PKR deputy president post between incumbent Mohamed Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli.
"The game isn't over until it's over," said Zuraida, who is seen to be aligned to Azmin's camp.
As of last night, Azmin is trailing Rafizi by a mere 48 votes, with about 75 percent of party members yet to vote.
Zuraida, meanwhile, also agreed with the Election Commission's reminder that politicians with government posts should not take part in the Port Dickson by-election campaign during their working hours.
"There's no problem if ministers are not given permission to campaign in the by-election during office hours.
"We have our ground staff, so they can go campaign on behalf of the minister," she said.
PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim is in the running for the Negeri Sembilan parliamentary constituency, where he will face of against six challengers, including his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan and former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Mohd Isa Abdul Samad.
Others in the race are Mohd Nazari Mokhtar of PAS and independents Stevie Chan, Lau Seck Yan and Kan Chee Yuen. - Mkini
