PETALING JAYA: Rafizi Ramli has now edged out Datuk Seri Azmin Ali in the competition to be the PKR deputy president.
Rafizi won in the Federal Territories’ leg of the race, coming a little closer to his goal of taking the party’s deputy presidency.
He won by a margin of 135 votes in the three territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, garnering 2,929 votes against Azmin’s 2,794.
Rafizi had also captured the three states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang while Azmin was declared the victor of the Penang and Johor rounds.
Before today's results, the incumbent Azmin was leading the competition by a razor-thin 92 votes against Rafizi, a current vice-president.
With the latest result, Rafizi has now overtaken Azmin by 43 votes.
Rafizi's total tally of votes is now at 19,155 votes, while Azmin has 19,112 votes.
Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Perlis, Kedah, Perak and Selangor will e-vote this month. Sabah and Sarawak will follow suit in November.
The official results will be announced at the PKR national congress in mid-November.
If the race goes down to the wire, Selangor, which has the highest number of PKR voters, may decide who becomes the next deputy president.- Star
